Don’t Let Your Gas Give You Sass

Don’t Let Your Gas Give You Sass

Many people prefer cooking and heating with gas instead of electricity. It’s not a coincidence that most chefs and restaurants prefer gas for cooking, and it’s also probably not a coincidence that gas is often preferred for heating. It’s not only about cost, but also about efficiency and effectiveness. However, that doesn’t mean that your gas service in Marietta is completely without issue. Upkeep and maintenance are still necessary, and, especially in older homes, sometimes repairs might be necessary. Emergencies unfortunately happen, and it’s always a good idea to know that professionals are standing by and ready to help.

Get Help with Gas

Luckily, there are also times when you know you’ll need assistance, and you can plan for it in advance. If you’re remodeling your home, you might need lines moved or removed. That’s something you should certainly leave to the professionals, even if you do typically prefer a do-it-yourself approach to home repairs. If you’re expanding rooms or rearranging the kitchen, you might need lines moved to accommodate your oven or dryer. As you’re putting together your remodeling plans, details like that are certainly something to keep in mind. It’s never a bad idea to call for professional advice as you’re mapping out your remodeling plans and putting together your to-do list. The more prepared you are, the more headaches you are likely to avoid.

Naturally, older homes sometimes need a lot of TLC, and that’s also something to keep in mind. If you need gas service in Marietta for an older home, it’s a good idea to plan and map out that process as well. You might be trying to find a way to salvage an outdoor stove or perhaps you’re looking into a gas burning fireplace. Older homes can be wonderful to beautify, but it’s always a good idea to know about the job that you’ll be tackling. Getting professional advice and assistance is always a wise first step.

What to Expect When Cruising the River Moselle

What to Expect When Cruising the River Moselle

Renowned as one of the most picturesque rivers the world, the Moselle stretches for a languid 340 miles from the Vosges Mountains of France to flow into the Rhine in Germany. Various sections have become extremely popular with barge holiday operators, not just for the magnificent scenery encountered along the way, but also for the many historical attractions and, of course, the wine.
The Route of the Moselle

From its elevated source at Ballon d’Alsace, the river passes through the spectacularly beautiful and historically significant French landscape of Lorraine, before forming part of the border of Luxembourg and Germany. On its path it takes in countless small towns, Alpine villages and wine-growing regions. Some of the more industrialised sections of the Moselle Valley are also used for transporting goods on large cargo ships. The river joins the Rhine at Koblenz, as its longest tributary. Since it was made entirely navigable in 1964, the river has become a very busy waterway, encompassing 14 locks and a dedicated shipping channel. As well as barge holiday operators, the traffic comprises large numbers of private vessels and commercial and cargo ships.

Attractions en Route

For those on a barge holiday, whatever section of the Moselle makes up the itinerary there are countless attractions to see from the water and on shore excursions. One of the most enchanting is Burg Eltz, a real-life fairytale castle set in its own lush forest. The medieval castle is immaculately preserved, having been in one family for more than 850 years. The interiors are bedecked with original tapestries, furnishings and artworks that have been curated with such attention and care they look like the centuries have simply passed them by. Set upon the peak of a huge craggy rock, Burg Eltz epitomises the concept of a fairytale castle.

For those passing through Trier (close to Luxembourg), exploring the Roman ruins of the oldest city in Germany is a must. Founded in 16 BC by the infamous Augustus, Trier was a vital trade and financial hub for the Roman Empire for more than four centuries. Today one can walk around its many archaeological attractions and take in sites like the Porta Nigra, the Hauptmarkt and the city’s most iconic landmark, the magnificent UNESCO-listed Trierer Dom – the oldest cathedral in Germany. The city is also famous for a very different reason as the birthplace of philosopher Karl Marx.

Fine Wine

It’s not for nothing that wine is one of the most popular themes for barge holiday itineraries in this region of Germany and Luxembourg. The Moselle Valley is renowned for some of the world’s finest Rieslings, which make up around 60% of its total production. The region provides the perfect conditions for this famous grape, with records indicating that it has been grown there since 1435. The Riesling has a distinct colour and flavour that aficionados attribute to its high acidity, and it has the ability to age well up to 40 years.

For history, scenery and the opportunity to immerse yourself in one of the most acclaimed wine regions in the world, cruising along the beautiful River Moselle is invariably a most memorable and enjoyable experience for travellers of any age.

On board Rosa, you’ll cruise along the Dordogne River, soaking up the sights, smells and tastes of Bordeaux. Learn all about the varieties of wines produced here, from Médoc to the left to the vast selection found on the right bank of the river.

Types of Grape

Two of the most widely grown grapes in Saint-Émilion are the Merlot and the Cabernet Franc. Differing in taste and structure, these varieties have something for every connoisseur’s palate.

Merlot is composed of a rich, full-bodied combination of flavours with hints of plum, blackberries, dark cherries and chocolate, while Cabernet Franc is lighter and floral. The latter has become increasingly popular in recent years, due to its ability to thrive in spite of changes in climate.

Saint-Émilion Soil

Wines vary greatly in this region, which is due in large part to the differences in soil from vineyard to vineyard. For the most part, Grand Cru wines that are produced in this area are grown in soils that are rich in limestone, which can be found in the hills that surround Saint-Émilion. This greatly benefits the grapes, as the soil has vital minerals, such as calcium, that are needed to help vines grow. What’s more, its consistency provides excellent drainage.

Alternatively, the soil around Canon-La-Graffeliére boasts a sandy texture, which produces widely enjoyed and lighter-bodied tipples. When you join one of the many wine tours on offer, you can discover even more about the growing conditions and flavours of the region.

Concrete brings us a brand new Japanese watering hole and dining experience at Izakaya in Hotel Roomers, Munich.
Hotel Roomers in Munich stands out for its Japanese restaurant, Izakaya in an incredibly unique way. The restaurant announces its presence via its show kitchen visible through the glass facade of the porte-cochere. This kitchen block continues inside the lobby as a jewellery case covered in gold mirror – also the restaurant’s main entrance!

Black and gold dominate the colour palette here with a contrasting feature of light wooden lamellas along the ceiling and wall. Gold cladding uplifts the space especially through the backlit bar top, with a warm yellow marble finish that makes every drink sparkle. While the bar is a highlight element, one cannot miss the show-stopper i.e. the oversized wooden Koi-carp lamp. Typically Japanese, this lamp would’ve probably overpowered the design had it not been so dynamic!

Seating zones are created by introducing silk-printed rotating panels that are also black mirrors and level changers. The rotating panels serve many purposes: they can either connect or separate the space depending on the angle of rotation. While on one side, a Japanese-inspired artwork on silkscreen by artist Gijs Scholten anoints it; the other side is clad with a black mirror with different settings. In the early evening, the whole space can appear as one; while during the after-hours, the bar can be cordoned off to establish a darker and cosy mood that lasts deep into the night. This element helps the space adapt to its clients allowing for a truly transformable experience.

Originally wind-powered Tjalks were built of wood; In the nineteenth century, ship builders began to consider the possibility of iron and on twentieth century steel properties exploited by this industry. Therefore, the modern version of Tjalk is constructed of iron or steel, yet retains the stern arch of indigenous wood.

Designed for fast-flowing estuaries and rivers in the Netherlands, the tough Klipper is always built of iron or steel. The use of steel leads to a stronger vessel, although this introduces the danger of corrosion. Klipper’s steering sat under a stern round and ridden with wheels. Beurtmotor and Luxemotor

Beurtmotor is used for passengers and cargo and often travels to a reliable schedule, replacing steam-powered steamers. It became even more popular with the introduction of diesel engines because their scheduling was more consistent than ever before. Like other barges, Beurtmotor was built to navigate the shallow waters – anywhere between 3 and about 10 feet of water. However this is not a limitation, as most inland waters in western Europe conform to this requirement.

Luxemotor trailblazing was built in the early 20th century and was the first barge to have its own machine. Driving on Beurtmotor’s success, they are quite luxurious with plenty of space – including kitchens and toilets – as well as a pointy bow that is ideal for more open waters.

Spitz

Spitz has a long and varied history. They were built to the standard of Freycinet imposed by Napoleon during the standardization period, and the ship was first withdrawn by hand (or horse). However, after the Second World War many Belgian Spitz ships were kitted out with tank machines that were often disabled. With some adjustments at the stern to fix the wheel, the Spitz Motor version is designed for canals in France, Belgium and the Netherlands.

European Air Line: Our Fleet

The European Airway fleet includes a barge with lots of history behind them. Vacation barges match the history lover and cruise ship enthusiasts. For example, L’Art de Vivre – the oldest fleet – is an English model and built in the First World War to supply allied forces in the Somme.
